Crafty Tuesday: Summer Bucket List

Crafty Tuesday:  Summer Bucket List

Every summer my family has a list of things it likes to do.  And every year without fail, we forget half of them until the week before school starts.  This year a friend of mine posted a super cute idea.  She took a piece of poster board and wrote out all the things she and her family were going to do this summer.  I decided to take it a bit further and cut out an actual bucket {yes, that's what it's supposed to be!} and decorate the outside with stickers from the scrapbooking section of my local Michael's Craft Store.  I think it turned out pretty cute, and it's gotten a lot of love from friends and family on my Facebook page.

Some of the ideas we had were already plans in the works, like going up to Vancouver, Canada for a family wedding.  Others were ideas we got from browsing our local section of Groupon.com and LivingSocial.com for deals on family friendly excursions.  We're lucky that living in the Northern Virginia area puts us so close to so many great attractions and places to visit.  We're about an hour south of the Washington, DC, two hours from Richmond, and three hours from Williamsburg or Virginia Beach.  Close enough that we can make it a day trip if we can't spring for a hotel.  My husband's grandmother also lives down by Richmond, so if we're heading south and need to we can always spend the night at her place.  It's a good way to visit with her, do our trip, and check multiple things off our list!

This whole project cost me roughly $20.  You need poster board {I bought a five pack of 8.5 x 11 size from Target}, a foam board, glue, an exacto knife or scissors, permanent markers {I like Sharpie brand}, letter stickers {my handwriting sucks}, and some scrapbooking stickers that represent some of the things on your list or summer in general.  I'm going to hang it on the wall in our breakfast room with some Command Strips.  This way we can take it down after the summer with no marks on the walls.

Directions for Assembly:

1.  Cut your foam board in half.  Cut out a "bucket" shape and glue to the front of one half of the foam board.

2. Add your letter stickers or write your title by hand.

3. Fill in your list of things to do, adding a check box after each one.  I alternated colors of marker to keep it more fun looking.  I started off writing out in pencil so I knew I had enough space, but I realized afterwards that erasing the pencil wasn't so easy once I'd written over it with permanent marker.

4.  Decorate with your scrapbooking stickers.  I chose a few different styles.  Some were flat and matte, with a cardstock feel to them.  Others were three dimensional.  And some were glittery.

5.  Hang, and as you complete each item, check it off!

Bonus~ Pick a fun reward for the family if you complete all the items on your bucket list before the first day of school!  Maybe a make your own sundae party at home, or a dinner at your favorite restaurant.  Be creative with it!

What kinds of things are you and your family doing this summer?

Thanks so much for reading!  Don't forget to PIN this project for future reference and of course check out more of my delicious recipes and crafts on the blog.  See you next time!
